The Bryan Hall Steering Committee has earned the unofficial label "the hardest working committee at Florida State." Each winter the committee's main responsibility is to evaluate several hundred applications (between 900 and 1200 on average). Throughout the academic year, the Steering Committee also meets to:

  • Review (and sometimes update) application evaluation criteria. Discussions usually focus on "what we're looking for" in a Bryan Hall Learning Community member, especially in terms of how to identify one's genuine interest in learning through essays that focus on Curiosity and the Desire to Learn.
  • Review the application results at the end of the spring semester.
  • Discuss potential changes in the program (from the application process to the academic opportunities available throughout the year).
